A door that is used all day wears faster than one that is used a few times a day, and most failures give some warning first. A maintenance inspection is a chance to find worn parts and small problems before they stop the door.

A typical inspection looks at the springs and cables that carry the door's weight, the rollers, tracks or curtain, hinges and other hardware, the door's balance, and how the operator and its safety devices behave.

• Access requirements and preferred service hours, such as gate codes or times when the building is quiet.

• Number of doors and how the work needs to be scheduled around your business.
